UK, Qatar announce $11.2m lifeline for Rohingya refugees

The United Kingdom and the State of Qatar have stepped up with a joint $11.2 million commitment to strengthen humanitarian support for more than 647,000 Rohingya refugees and the Bangladeshi communities hosting them in Cox’s Bazar.

The new funding will expand access to Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) for vulnerable refugee households, easing daily hardships while cutting pressure on the surrounding environment, British High Commission announced it on its verified Facebook page on Sunday.

Aid officials say the move will help reduce the widespread use of firewood, which has long contributed to deforestation around the camps.

Both countries underscored that the partnership is designed to improve overall living conditions and promote safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities for refugees and locals alike.
