NN Online:
Students of United International University (UIU) staged a road blockade in Dhaka’s Bhatara Natun Bazar area on Saturday morning, protesting the expulsion of 26 final-year honours students.
The protest disrupted traffic from Kuril Bishwa Road to Badda, though the opposite lane—from Badda to Kuril—remained open.
According to Bhatara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Hasan, about 25 to 30 students began occupying the road around 8am, demanding the university revoke the expulsion orders.
University authorities reportedly expelled the students after they scored poorly in their final exams, raising concerns over their ability to graduate even with future attempts. However, the protesting students allege the decision was unjust and are calling for both its reversal and action against the university administration.
Law enforcement remains on site, closely monitoring the situation.
