University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. SMA Faiz on Monday laid emphasis on reducing distance between student-teacher relationships to ensure an effective academic environment, saying teachers should understand students’ expectation and meet it accordingly.
“Student-teacher relationships gap should be reduced to ensure an effective academic atmosphere. In addition, teachers have to meet the expectation of students,” he said.
The chairman made the call while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop on a teacher training module under “Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)” project at UGC, funded by the government and the World Bank, said a press release.
Mentioning that the student-teacher relationships are the aspect of respect, Professor Faiz said distance that is being existed in the student-teacher relationships in classroom should be minimized.
“Teachers should pay more attention to what the students want in classroom,” he said, adding, “Today’s students are very talented.”
He advised teachers to understand their students properly, and give due respect to their emotions.
UGC member Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen and Additional Secretary (Development) of Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education Md Hasan Maruf also spoke.
