UCBD holds orientation for cybersecurity students

First Bangladeshi students join UCLan’s Cybersecurity program alongside the second Business and Marketing batch
On Monday, Universal College Bangladesh (UCBD)held the orientation program for the first students who have enrolled in theUniversity of Central Lancashire (UCLan)Cybersecurity degree, and for the second batch of Business & Marketing degree students at their Gulshan campus.
UCBD isthe exclusive partner of UCLan and the first higher education institution in Bangladesh to be given Ministry of Education approval to offer international university degrees. Students enrolling in UCLan programmes can complete fullthree yearhonoursdegrees in Dhaka, or can transfer to the UK after the first year.
The orientation program started with the opening remarks of Professor Hew Gill, President & Provost of UCBD, and Professor Muhammad Ismail Hossain, Dean of Academic Affairs of UCBD.Then the UCBD ProgrammeCoordinators, Ambreen Zaman for Cybersecurity and Abhishek Chakravarty for Business& Marketing, explained about the content of the degrees and opportunities for students to study in the UK, says a press release.
Shabaz Ali Mahmood, Lecturer in Digital Marketing, School of Business,at UCLan also took part in the orientation and said, “From today onwards, the students enrolled in these programmes will embark on a new journey of learning. This is an excellent opportunity for Bangladeshi students to gather world-class knowledge, which will give them many job opportunities in this competitive world.”
Prof Hew and Samia Salam, Parent Engagement Executive, conducted a special session for the parents in attendance at the orientation. This session explained the many innovative aspects of the UCLan degrees, and how students learn a mix of theory and practical skills which are very valuable to employers.
Prof Hew said that students do not take many exams and are assessedduring the whole programme, with the emphasis being on assignments and practical tasks which allow students to demonstrate the skills that they have learned. Hecontinued, “We welcome students from HSC, A Level and other educational backgrounds direct into our UK degrees. This means that all local students can get exposure to international trends and learn from internationally acclaimed faculty members. The degrees we offer in Dhaka are exactly the same as the degrees offered in the UK, and students will receive the same degree certificate whether they study in Bangladesh or Britain.”
