Teachers from the University of Asia and the Pacific (UAP) staged a procession in a powerful display of solidarity at Green Road in Dhaka on Friday, demanding justice for those who lost their lives during recent quota protests.
The demonstration, which began at the university’s main campus and highlighted the educators’ deep concern over the tragic events and their call for accountability.
The procession, attended by hundreds of UAP faculty members, carried banners and posters with messages such as ‘Save Our Children’, ‘Justice for the Fallen”, ‘We Want Justice’.
The Anti-Quota Movement began last month when students and activists gathered to demand a reevaluation of quota system, which they argued disproportionately affected certain groups. The situation escalated, leading to violent confrontations between protesters and law enforcement. “Today, we march not only in memory of those we have lost but to demand that such tragedies never happen again,” UAP teachers said.
Local authorities have stated that they are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the incidents.
The impact of this demonstration is likely to resonate throughout the academic community and beyond, as calls for reform and accountability continue to grow.
The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as investigations progress and discussions between stakeholders continue.
