The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the possible dates for the holy month of Ramadan and Eid ul-Fitr in 2025.

UAE Astronomical Authority Chairman Ibrahim Al Jarwan said the first day of fasting marking the start of Ramadan could begin on March 1, 2025, with just seven weeks remaining, reports Gulf News.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is marked by fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayers and acts of charity.

This month holds special significance as it marks the revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). During Ramadan, believers engage in increased prayers, Qur’an recitation, and charity.

In the UAE, during Ramadan, the working hours for labourers are reduced. Typically, office hours are shortened from eight hours to six, allowing workers some physical comfort while fasting.

While most countries rely on moon sighting to determine the start of Ramadan, some set the dates based on the calendar. If this year’s Ramadan lasts 29 days, Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 30 in the Middle East. If Ramadan extends to 30 days, Eid will fall on March 31.

Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, community, and devotion, with Muslims preparing to embrace its essence as the holy month approaches.
