NN Online:

The United States (US) has announced $73 million in aid for the Rohingya refugees currently sheltered in Bangladesh.

US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce shared the news on her verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday.

She said, The US is providing $73 million in new aid for Rohingya refugees. This assistance, through the World Food Programme (WFP), will provide emergency food and nutrition support to over one million Rohingya refugees. Sharing the burden with our international partners through such life-saving support is crucial.”

Earlier this month, during his visit to Bangladesh, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over the decline in humanitarian assistance for the 1.2 million Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar.

The reduction in aid became a major concern following the administration of US President Donald Trump, who halted funding for agencies like USAID and cut foreign assistance programmes. As a result, Rohingya refugees faced significant uncertainty regarding food and healthcare, leading to a drastic reduction in their daily rations.
