The Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) has launched its typhoid
vaccination campaign. This year, the target is to vaccinate more than
200,000 children within the city area. The campaign was officially
inaugurated on Sunday (October 12) morning by NCC’s Chief Executive
Officer, Md. Zakir Hossain.
To encourage parents and remove vaccine hesitancy, Dr. Nafia Islam,
NCC’s Chief Health Officer, administered the first dose of the vaccine
to her own daughter.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Imperial International School in
Isdair, with Dr. Nafia Islam, Medical Officer of NCC, presiding over the
event. Among others present were Salina A. Chowdhury, Principal of
Imperial International School, and Nasir Uddin, NCC’s Vaccination
Officer.
Speaking as the chief guest, Md. Zakir Hossain said, “This free typhoid
vaccine provided by the government is extremely important. Over the
next 10 days, the vaccination drive will continue across schools. Parents
should be more aware and actively participate in this campaign.”
In her remarks, Dr. Nafia Islam reassured parents, saying, “The vaccine
is completely safe. There are many rumors about vaccinations, but they
are not true.”
According to City Corporation sources, NCC aims to vaccinate 215,000
children this year. The campaign will run for 10 working days across
schools and continue for an additional eight days at permanent
vaccination centers.
