Two young cousins tragically drowned in a pond in Narail’s Kalia upazila on Saturday evening.
The victims were identified as Sakib Sheikh, 5, and Manik Islam, 4. Sakib was the son of Jakat Sheikh of Uttar Khashial village, while Manik, originally from Barishal, was living with his mother at her brother’s home in the same village.
According to locals and family members, the children were playing in the courtyard as usual but went missing in the evening. After a frantic search, their bodies were found floating in a nearby pond, said Khashial Union Parishad Chairman BM Barkat Ullah.
Naragati Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ashiqur Rahman said the bodies were returned to their families following a preliminary investigation. An unnatural death case has been filed.
