NSTU Correspondent:

Two students of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) have been expelled from Abdul MalekUkil Hall after hall authorities recovered marijuana from their dormitory room on Tuesday evening.

The expelled students were identified as Tanvir Sarkar and Usaing Si, both from the Management Information System (MIS) department of the 2018–19 academic session.

According to hall authorities, a dispute over a seat in room 209 of Abdul MalekUkil Hall led the provost and assistant provosts to visit the room around 7:00pm. Acting on prior information, they conducted a search during which they found two polythene bags containing marijuana inside a locker.

“We went to resolve a seat-related complaint. Based on previous information, we searched the locker and found the marijuana. We immediately locked the room and expelled both students from the hall,” said Dr Md Taslim Mahmud, Associate Professor and Provost of the hall.

Following questioning at the hall office, the students reportedly admitted that the recovered substance was marijuana. “We have taken written confessions from them. I have already submitted a request to the Proctor’s office to investigate the matter and take action against them according to university regulations,” Dr Mahmud added.
