The dengue infection, which has broken all records in the country this year, is showing a downtrend for the last few days.
At least two more dengue patients, including a child, died yesterday. Of them, the child died in Dhaka and a housewife in Satkhira district.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Friday, said the number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in
government and private hospitals is combined around 6,035. On Friday, 1,446 dengue-infected patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country while it was 1,626 on Wednesday and 1,597 on Thursday respectively, added the press release.
Among the dengue admitted patients, 689 were admitted in Dhaka and 757 in districts outside Dhaka. The number of new infection has decreased from 836 to 757 in the district level during the last 24 hours.
Arian was admitted to Dhaka Shishu (Children’s) Hospital with dengue fever Thursday and died around 3:30pm on Friday, said Abdul Hakim, public relations officer, of the hospital.
Till now, 12 children died of dengue in this hospital this year, he said.
A total of 109 children with dengue fever are now undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.
The housewife died of the mosquito-borne disease dengue in sadar upazila of Satkhira.
She died on her way to Khulna Medical College Hospital from Satkhira Sadar Hospital early Friday.
The deceased is identified as Shahanara Khatun, 37, wife of Khalilur Rahman of Kushkhali village in the upazila.
Satkhira Sadar Hospital Medicine Specialist Dr Asaduzzaman said Shahanara was admitted to Sadar Hospital after being diagnosed with dengue on August 18.
On Thursday midnight, the physicians referred her to Khulna Medical College Hospital after her condition deteriorated. She died around 1:00am while being transferred to Khulna.
Earlier in the evening of August 22, a madrasa student named Alamgir Gazi, of Kaliganj upazila, died of dengue while under treatment.
According to DGHS, the total 47 dengue patients have died across the country from January 1 till August 22. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 107, so far.
A total of 3,411 patients are currently receiving treatment in different government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas a total of 2,624 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the release said.
Since January 1 till August 23, a total of 61,038 people have been affected by dengue.
