TANGAIL, Sept 7 – Police in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail arrested two alleged members of a power equipment theft gang on Sunday afternoon. Acting on a tip-off, police recovered 60 kg of copper wire and 97 kg of steel plates, reportedly stolen from electric transformers. The seized items are estimated to be worth Tk 1.17 lakh.
The arrestees have been identified as Monirul Islam (21) and Siddik Hossain (21), both residents of Chandar village in Bharra Union.
Officer-in-Charge of Nagarpur Police Station, Md Rafiqul Islam, said the gang had long been involved in stealing transformer coils and wires from various areas of Nagarpur. “They were caught red-handed while loading the stolen materials onto a boat,” he added.
A case has been filed by Md Kamrul Islam, Enforcement Coordinator of Nagarpur Palli Bidyut Samity. The accused were sent to court along with the recovered evidence.
