Two held for firing on students

In separate drives, the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two individuals accused of firing on students and the public during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement that took place in July.

In Uttara, members of RAB apprehended Delwar Hossain Rubel, who had been involved in a case related to the shooting that occurred in Uttara, Dhaka. Rubel was arrested in Gazipur’s Tongi area.

According to a press release issued by RAB on Tuesday, Rubel had fired shots using a pistol during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Uttara Sector-11 on 3 August.

In a separate operation, RAB-7 arrested Md Mizan, 33, who was wanted for allegedly opening fire on students and the public during the movement in the Bahaddarhat area under Chandgaon Thana, Chattogram, on 18 July.

Md Sharif-ul-Alam, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police with RAB-7, confirmed the arrest, stating that Mizan was detained on Monday night in a special drive conducted in the Bayezid Bostami area of the city. During the arrest, some 1,200 yaba tablets were recovered from his possession.

Mizan is also wanted in connection with seven other cases, including those related to drugs, arms, abduction, and dacoity, according to RAB officials.
