One more student of the Film and Television Department at Jagannath University is facing threats of expulsion from the university, along with threats of murder, for accusing a teacher of sexual harassment.
Later, she filed a complaint against the accused teacher Abu Shahed Imon and department chairman Junayed Ahmed Halim at the Detective Branch (DB) office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on March 18 seeking safety of her life.
After this complaint, the two accused teachers were called to the DB office on Wednesday (March 20).
The victim student was also called.
A DB source confirmed to the media saying that the female student and the two accused teachers have been called for face-to-face questioning regarding the allegations in the office of DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Mohammad Harun Or Rashid.
It is learned that two teachers have been called for questioning based on the complaint made by the victim student.Relatives of the victim’s family have also been called at the time.
Earlier, the student complained to the DB office last Monday (March 18) at noon.After filing the complaint, the student told reporters at the DB office on Minto Road on the day, “The teacher of my department, Abu Shahed Imon, sexually harassed me.
After giving this complaint, the chairman of the department and the accused teacher kept pressuring me in various ways to withdraw it.
As I did not agree to this, they threatened to expel me from the university along with cutting off my hands and feet.Even I failed various exams with zero marks.I was failed in honors final viva too for this reason, she added.’
Recently, in the case of suicide of Fairuz Sadaf Avantika, a student of the same university, this student spoke out against others sexual harassment and various oppressions.
There, while talking about Avantika, the topic itself comes up to the victim.
