The Government of Bangladesh and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Saturday signed a $150 million loan agreement aimed at strengthening technical and vocational education and training (TVET) to foster
quality employment and enhance global competitiveness.

The agreement was signed at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in Dhaka, with ERD Secretary Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky and ADB Country Director Hoe Yun Jeong representing their respective sides.

The initiative is aligned with the government’s Integrated TVET Development Action Plan (ITDAP) and focuses on five key technology sectors: mechanical, electronics and electrical, information and communication technology (ICT), civil engineering, and food and agriculture. Special emphasis will be placed on improving access to training in underserved regions, in an effort to promote inclusive job creation.

Under the “TVET Teachers for the Future” programme, the ADB will support advanced training for instructors-particularly in emerging technologies-and help establish a nationwide system for continuous professional development.

The project aims to upskill at least 10,000 TVET teachers, with the broader goal of benefiting over 250,000 students nationwide.

“This programme supports Bangladesh’s economic diversification and enhances access to decent employment,” said ADB Country Director Hoe Yun Jeong at the signing ceremony.

Established in 1966, the ADB is owned by 69 member countries and continues to play a key role in promoting inclusive and sustainable development across Asia and the Pacific.
