A Turkish Airlines flight was forced to return to Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday after a bird struck the aircraft shortly after takeoff, causing smoke to emit from one of its engines.

According to airport authorities, the incident damaged the right engine of the Airbus A330-300. Despite the scare, all 280 passengers and crew on board remained safe.

Executive Director of the airport, SM Ragib Samad, reported that Flight TK713 took off at 7:09 AM but was compelled to return when smoke was observed coming from the right engine. The pilot successfully landed the aircraft at 8:01 AM.

Passengers have since been accommodated at a hotel while arrangements are underway to provide alternative flights. Turkish Airlines’ Dhaka office confirmed that the aircraft has been grounded and will require some time for repairs.
