rickshaw puller murder: Tuku, Palak, BCL’s Soikat remanded

A Dhaka court on Thurday placed former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Dhaka University Chhatra League General Secretary Tanvir Hasan Soikat on 10-day remand each, for murdering a rickshaw puller on July 19.

As the tree accused people were produced before the court last afternoon, Investigation Officer of the case and Paltan Model Thana Sub-Inspector Mohammad Yusuf pleaded for 10-day remand for each, for the sake of investigation.

Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam accepted the plea
and put them on remand for 10 days each.

According to the case, on July 19 at about 7pm, clash broke out between some mobs and police near Paltan Model Police Station’s Bot Tola Goli area.

Police fired several round of bullets aiming the alleged miscreants, who were earlier allegedly vandalizing and setting parked vehicles in the area on fire. During the clash, Kamal Mia 39, received bullet injury.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Fatema Khatun, wife of the deceased, filed a case with Paltan Model Police Station the next day.

On Wednesday, Tuku, Palak and Soikat were arrested from the city’s Nikunja residential area.
