The government has suspended movement of trucks, covered vans and lorries on the highways for six days, three days before the Eid-ul-Azha and three days after the festivals to facilitate a traffic jam free smooth journey.
The six-day ban on the movement of trucks, covered vans and lorries will be effective from June 4-6 before the Eid and June 12-14 after the Eid, reports BSS.
However, vehicles carrying livestock, daily household necessities and food items, perishable goods, garments, medicines, fertilizers, and fuel will be exempted from the restriction. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a statement signed by its Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, issued a set of instructions to be followed by all concerned to ensure a better traffic management free from traffic jam ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.
Instructions regarding the movement of vehicles on the highways:
(1) Buses without route permits will not be allowed to ply under any circumstances.
(2) Inter-district buses will have to pick up passengers inside the terminal and travel directly to their destination. Under no circumstances will buses be allowed to park on the road outside the terminal.
(3) Passengers will not be picked up and dropped off standing on the road except at authorized counters.
(4) No vehicles will be allowed to park on the roads leading into and out of Dhaka city.
(5) Vehicles that are damaged, unfit, have mechanical defects and emit black smoke will not be allowed on the road.
(6) On the Dhaka-Ashulia highway, from Abdullahpur in Uttara to Dhaur Bridge via Kamarpara, all types of vehicles will be allowed to ply on June 4, 5 and 6 only for exiting Dhaka city (one-way).
Vehicles that will enter Dhaka via Ashulia Dhaur-Kamarpara-Abdullahpur on the said road will enter Gabtoli/other areas via Agulia-Dhaur-Panchabati and Mirpur Beribandh Road.
(7) On the two lanes of the Airport to Gazipur Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, all types of vehicles will ply from Dhaka to Joydevpur intersection on June 4, 5 and 6 only for exiting Dhaka (one-way diversion).
No vehicle will be able to come towards Dhaka (incoming) through the lane entering Dhaka of the said BRT. Vehicles on other lanes of the highway will ply normally as before.
BRT buses heading towards Dhaka will arrive in Dhaka on normal roads/lanes along with other vehicles.
(8) To reduce traffic jams in Dhaka city, arrangements should be made to prevent buses from BRTC bus depots in the Dhaka Metro area from crossing Dhaka city (for example, buses from Gabtoli/Balyanpur depot will ply in Rajshahi/Rangpur division and buses from Motijheel and Fulbaria depot will ply in Chittagong/Sylhet division).
(9) In order to facilitate the movement of Eid journey related vehicles, other vehicles, except for urgent needs, are requested to avoid the following roads and use alternative roads on June 4, 5 and 6, 2025: Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway (Banani to Abdullahpur); Dhaka-Chittagong Highway (Jatrabari to Signboard); Mirpur Road (Shamoli to Gabtoli); Dhaka-Keraniganj Road (Phulbaria to Babubazar Bridge); Dhaka-Mawa Highway (Jatrabari to Buriganga Bridge); Mohammadpur Basila Crossing to Basila Bridge Road; Abdullahpur to Dhour Bridge Road.
