Almost all sectors of Sylhet have suffered heavy losses due to three successive floods. After the water receded, these scars became clear. Starting from rural roads and regional highways, everything is like a pile of destruction.
After investigation, it is known that Goainghat, Kanaighat, Companiganj, Balaganj, Biswanath and all the upazilas of the district have suffered heavy losses due to flood. An area of 1 thousand 449.24 km in rural areas has been damaged and 68.66 km in urban areas. 1 lakh 39 thousand 103 women, 1 lakh 20 thousand 472 men, 60 thousand children, 2 thousand 411 disabled people have been affected by the flood. 3 women, 12 men, 4 children were injured. People’s houses and furniture have also been damaged in the flood. The residents will have to spend several crores of taka for the repair. Domestic cows, buffaloes, donkeys and chickens were swept away by the water and died due to various reasons in the flooded areas, causing a loss of around 42 lakh rupees.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Directorate, Sylhet, Mohammad Khairuddin Molla said, the district’s auj seedbed, aush paddy, summer vegetables, bona aman, aman seedbed have been damaged. Among the existing crops was Aman Bijtala on 2 thousand 286 hectares of land, out of which 1 thousand 985 hectares of land was damaged. Aush paddy was cultivated on 15 thousand 346 hectares of land out of which 12 thousand 213 hectares of land were damaged.
Summer vegetables were cultivated on 9 thousand 985 hectares of land but 8 thousand 542 hectares of land were damaged. Bona Aman was planted on 167 hectares of land but the crop of 147 hectares of land was destroyed. Aman Bijtala was on 715 hectares of land, 74 hectares of land was damaged. In total, the amount of loss in production is 1 lakh 66 thousand 781 decimal 96 metric tons. It caused a loss of 422 crores 29 lakhs 93 thousand rupees. A total of 1 lakh 70 thousand 272 farmers have been affected. Due to the 3rd round of floods, we could not achieve our target in Aushe.
District Fisheries Officer Seema Rani Biswas said that 29 lakh 74 thousand 900 hectares of fish enclosures have been damaged in the district, which has resulted in a loss of Tk 44 crore 85 lakh 66 thousand. 21 thousand 111 ponds, ponds, farms have been damaged in the district, the area of which is 3 thousand 359.78 hectares.
Amir Hossain, Executive Engineer of Roads and Highways Department, said that about 39.9 kilometers of road under the jurisdiction of Sauz has been damaged. About 323 crore rupees will be required for the repair work of these damaged roads.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Abdul Quddus Bulbul said, almost all sectors have been damaged by floods. In all, the estimated total loss is 913 crores 27 lakhs 67 thousand 365 taka. And the estimated damage to roads and public roads is 323 crore 2 lakh 85 thousand taka.
In all, there has been a loss of 1236 crores 30 lakhs 52 thousand 365 rupees. The report we have prepared has been sent to the concerned ministry.
