As part of an initiative to encourage environmental awareness among the younger generation, the Department of Agricultural Extension in Shibganj Upazila has distributed tree saplings to students of schools under Mobarakpur Union Parishad.
The sapling distribution program was inaugurated on Saturday afternoon at the Mobarakpur Union Council premises by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Azahar Ali.
Also present at the event were Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Mizanur Rahman, Mobarakpur Union Parishad Chairman Mahamul Haque Hydari, and Deputy Assistant Agricultural Officers Salim Reza and Abu Mosaib.
Under the Agricultural Rehabilitation Assistance Program, a total of 118 students from four schools in the upazila received fruit-bearing saplings, including pear, jackfruit, and bell pepper. Speaking at the event, eighth-grade student Mosha Murseda Khatun of Raninagar Government Pilot High School expressed her excitement:
“I feel very happy to receive the tree sapling. By planting it, we can help maintain environmental balance.”
Officials said the initiative aims to instill a sense of responsibility toward nature and encourage students to actively participate in tree plantation activities, contributing to both ecological preservation and long-term sustainability.
