Training workshop on prevention of mis-journalism in the media and objective news presentation in Sylhet

Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice AKM Abdul Hakim said,
While performing duties in a great and important profession like journalism, one should not deviate from honesty and morality. News should be presented impartially only in the identity of a journalist, above political and other identities. Above all, one should perform duties with love for the country.
He said these things as the chief guest in a training workshop titled ‘Prevention of mis-journalism in the media and objective news presentation’ organized with the participation of journalists of print and electronic media in Sylhet district on Wednesday.
 The workshop was organized by the Bangladesh Press Council in collaboration with the district administration at the Sylhet Circuit House Conference Room.
The Press Council Chairman also said that journalists need to study to know and understand mis-journalism. Referring to the media as a mirror of society, he said that the main responsibility of journalists is to provide accurate, impartial and information-based news.
The workshop, chaired by Sylhet Additional Deputy Commissioner Padmasan Singh,
 Sylhet Metropolitan Police Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim PPM-Service also attend as a special guest.
Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin, Director of Sylhet District Information Office, delivered the welcome speech at the event. 40 (forty) news workers from Sylhet district participated in the training workshop.
In the workshop, Justice AKM Abdul Hakim conducted a session on the application of the Press Council Act-1974 in practicing responsible journalism.
Then, the journalists participating in the workshop highlighted various obstacles in performing their professional duties and called on the Bangladesh Press Council to take effective steps to remove them.
In addition, Bangladesh Press Council Secretary (Deputy Secretary) Md. Abdus Sabur conducted a session on “Importance of adhering to the Press Council’s code of conduct in disseminating objective news”.
At the end of the training workshop, the Chairman of the Press Council distributed certificates among the participating journalists.
