Tragic road accidents claim lives across country

Several fatal road accidents have occurred across different regions of the country, resulting in the loss of multiple lives.

Akkas Ali, aged 60, tragically lost his life when a ‘Binimoy Paribahan’ minibus collided with his motorcycle as he attempted to enter Road No. 27 in Banani around 11:30 am on Saturday.

The collision occurred as the minibus was en route from Dhaka to Jamalpur. The driver, Md Shahin, was promptly detained following the incident.

Kazi Shahan Huq, Officer-in-Charge of Banani Police Station, confirmed the details and stated that Akkas Ali was on his way to Uttara when the accident happened. His body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

In Cumilla, two individuals lost their lives when the truck they were traveling in lost control and crashed into a covered van in the Suagazi area of Cumilla Sadar Dakshin upazila on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at 8:30 am on Saturday morning.

The identities of the deceased, suspected to be the truck driver and assistant, have not been officially confirmed. Md. Ikbal Bahar, Officer-in-charge of Moinamati Highway Police Station, reported that the truck’s overspeeding led to the fatal collision.

Meanwhile, in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh district, two lives were lost when a covered van overturned and crushed a CNG-run autorickshaw at the Bhoradoba club market area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at 4:45 am on Saturday.

One of the deceased was identified as Abdul Halim, aged 40, the autorickshaw driver from Bailor area in Trishal upazila. The identity of the passenger is yet to be ascertained.

Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bhoradoba Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident.
