British Deputy High Commissioner James Goldman found himself stuck in Dhaka’s infamous traffic on Monday – but turned the moment into a lighthearted testament to the strength of the UK-Bangladesh partnership.

“Not even Dhaka traffic today can stop the UK-Bangladesh partnership,” Goldman wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

ASM Marjan Nur, Climate and Environment Adviser at the British High Commission’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), said that when the traffic came to a standstill, he and Goldman decided to step out of their vehicle and walk roughly 2.3 kilometres – from the Mohakhali expressway area to the Panthapath Pani Bhaban.

“James and I enjoyed an adventurous walk today, leaving behind the car and usual security protocols on our way to the launch of new UK-Bangladesh climate initiatives,” Nur shared.
Dhaka commuters, meanwhile, endured a day of extreme traffic disruption on 27 October, after an accident on the Airport-bound lane of the Elevated Expressway added to the chaos caused by the temporary suspension of Metro Rail services. The combined effect brought the capital to a crawl, with severe congestion reported across major intersections such as Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Kakrail, and Shahbagh.
The Metro Rail halt forced thousands of passengers onto the roads, creating gridlock throughout key corridors linking Mirpur, Tejgaon, and central Dhaka.
