Tourism coop deal with KL gets Cabinet nod

The Cabinet on Monday approved the proposal for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of Malaysia and Bangladesh on ‘Cooperation in the field of Tourism’ during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Kuala Lumpur next month.
The approval was given at the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said that MoU would be signed to enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism on research and development, training and human resource development, promotional activities, package tour operation, organizing tourism fair, encouraging economic activities through tourism and exchange of publicity materials.
The MoU will be implemented through a mutually agreed mechanism and any future dispute would be resolved by mutual discussion through diplomatic channels, he said.
The Cabinet Secretary informed that the tenure of the MoU would be five years and renewed automatically for another five years. There is a provision for revision and amendment of the MoU, while any third party could be engaged in it if both the parties deem appropriate. However, the MoU could
be withdrawn by any party with a six-month notice. Bhuiyan said that, the day’s Cabinet meeting also approved the proposal for signing another MoU between Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur on cooperation in the field of arts, culture and heritage. The MoU is also expected to be signed during the PM’s ensuing tour to Malaysia on the 1st week of December.
Under this MoU, he said, both the governments will ensure preservation of their respective arts, literature, tradition and culture, providing support for developing arts, museum, archives, library, best practices in the area of art and culture, exchange of expertise as well as research and publications in cultural field for promoting cultural cooperation.
Any dispute would be resolved by mutual consultation through diplomatic channels, he added.
The Cabinet Secretary said that the 3-year MoU will be automatically renewed and any party could withdraw it with a six month notice. Besides, any 3rd party could also engage in it to pursue the common goal.
Besides, he said, two reports on the visit of Bangladesh delegation to South Korea led by the Commerce Minister on September 22-27, 2014 and participation of the State Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Seventh Bali Democracy Forum on October 10-11, 2014 were also placed before the Cabinet meeting.
Cabinet members and State Minister concerned attended the meeting while concerned secretaries were present.
