The Election Commission (EC) has published the draft of the final voter roll, showing Bangladesh now has 12,76,12,384 registered voters.
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed announced the updated figures at a press briefing at the commission’s Agargaon headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday.
According to the draft, the electorate includes 6,47,60,382 male voters, 6,28,50,772 female voters and 1,230 third-gender voters. The final voter list will be released on 18 November, Ahmed said.
The supplementary voter roll published on 31 August had put the total number of voters at 126,307,504. Under recent amendments to the Voter List Act, citizens who turned 18 by 31 October were also included ahead of the finalisation.
The senior secretary added that this year’s voter roll is being prepared in three phases. More than 12.37 crore voters were listed as of 2 March.
Following a nationwide door-to-door update campaign, the number rose to over 12.63 crore by 31 August.
The EC initially listed around 46 lakh new voters in the 10 August draft. After resolving claims and objections, the final count of new voters reached 47,08,858, including 1,37,642 added through the review process.
