A team of the joint forces conducted an operation at Beauty Tobacco Factory in Shibalay upazila, Manikganj, in response to complaints about evading a significant amount of VAT. During the operation, a vast amount of fake band rolls and cigarette sticks has been seized. As a result, executive magistrate of the joint force has sealed the factory off.
The operation set off at the factory located in Notun Para of Shibalay on Thursday. Executive Magistrate, VAT officer and custom officers were present during the operation.
While confirming the incident, Executive Magistrate Sathi Das stated, “There is a complaint about escaping VAT amounting to Tk 3.4 million against Beauty Tobacco.
This company has been marketing cigarettes for a long time by escaping VAT. For this reason, an operation was conducted, which revealed the evasion of VAT.
Also, fake band rolls and cigarette sticks were seized from the factory.” She further mentioned that Beauty Tobacco had been sealed off due to violations of environmental regulations and several other infractions.
Sathi Das also indicated that VAT and environmental bureau officers are preparing to file separate cases regarding the incident.
When contacted, MD Kamal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Shibalay Police Station, confirmed the complaint regarding the VAT evasion and assured that proper legal procedures are being followed.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that National Cigarette Manufacturers Association’s (NCMA) General Secretary Nazmun Nahar Lucky is the owner of Beauty Tobacco in Manikganj.
