A total of 78 individuals injured in the mass uprising have been sent abroad for treatment in Thailand, Singapore, Turkey and Russia.
Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam said that the government spent Tk 12 crore on the treatment of each individual.
He made these remarks on Wednesday while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by the National Garment Workers Federation at the National Press Club.
Faruk E Azam said that the government has undertaken extensive programs for those injured and martyred in the 2024 mass uprising. Among these initiatives, the injured are receiving a monthly allowance of Tk 10,000.
They have also received one-time grants. Lifetime free medical care has been ensured for the injured, applicable at all government hospitals. To this end, they have been provided with a health card. The Ministry of Health has taken full responsibility for their treatment, and necessary care has been provided at all specialized hospitals in the country.
He further stated that those whose treatment was deemed insufficient within the country were sent abroad. Around 75 people were sent to Thailand, Singapore, Russia, and Turkey. The government spent Tk 120 million per person for treatment, with the primary goal being the quality of medical care rather than cost.
He added that the government has adopted a major rehabilitation plan. The injured will be rehabilitated according to their preferences. Those lacking the necessary skills will be provided with training. After training, they will be offered jobs based on their qualifications and needs. The government has clarified that it is not possible to provide a quota for the July fighters, as the 2024 mass uprising was itself against the quota system. No one will remain unemployed, and measures will be taken to ensure they can live with dignity.
Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, head of the Labour Reform Commission; Advocate Abed Reza, adviser to the organising body; Abdul Kader Hawlader, coordinator of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP); and Babul Akter, general secretary of IndustriALL Bangladesh, among others were also present at the event.
