Tk 6.63cr compensation realised for labourers through legal aid

A compensation of Taka 6.63 crore has been realised for labourers through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) from 2009 to January 2025.

The NLASO disclosed this information on its website, providing detailed statistics on legal aid services.

The legal service was originally introduced for financially disadvantaged individuals at the district level. Later, it was expanded to the Supreme Court, along with the establishment of Labourers’ Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram, as well as in prisons nationwide, reports BSS.

The report showed that legal services were provided to 29,075 people at government expense through the labourers’ Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chittagong.

Out of this, 21,363 legal advice services were provided.
Legal aid initiatives have been taken in 4,412 cases, out of which 801 cases have been settled. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) initiatives have been taken in 3,300 cases, out of which 1,913 cases have been settled through ADR.

Legal Aid has realized compensation of Taka 6,63,26,215 for workers in pre and post cases. This service is provided at government expense under the ‘Legal Aid Act’ to provide legal aid to financially indigent and incompetent litigants in the country.
