Using a love trap, a gang of criminals kidnapped one youth named Milon Hossain (23) from Maheshpur Bit Bazar area of Thankurgaon Sadar Upazila recently.
Unfortunately, the boy did not return home live though his father had paid Tk 25 lakh in ransom.
The District Detective Branch (DB) police recovered the body of Milon from the Shibganj Maheshpur Bit Bazar area of Jamalpul Union in Sadar Upazila.
DB police also arrested three people on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Later, based on the information provided by them, Milon’s decomposed body was recovered.
During initial interrogation, the arrested youths confessed to killing Milon and taking a ransom of Tk 25 lakh. It is believed the kidnappers killed Milon as he could recognize the abductors.
Earlier, victim Milon, son of Panjab Ali of Chapapara village in Pirganj upazila was abducted by his friend Sejan Ali on 23 February and the kidnappers demanded Tk3 lakh as ransom from the family of Milon.
As Milon’s family agreed to pay the ransom, the kidnappers demanded Tk5 lakh, then Tk10 and then Tk15 lakh. Later, they realised Tk25 lakh from the family on 9 March.
As per the instruction of the abductors, Milon’s father threw the bag containing ransom money from the moving Dhaka-bound intercity train ‘Ekota Express’.
After getting the ransom money, the abductors asked Milon’s family to take Milon from Dinajpur Rail Station.
As they failed to get Milon after giving ransom money, Milon’s father lodged a complaint with the local police station.
Police arrested Sejan Ali, 28, son of Matier Rahman, Murad, 25, son of Saiful Islam and Ratna Akter Riva, 19, daughter of Abdur Razzak in this connection on Wednesday, Thakurgaon Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mamunur Rashid said.
“Following interrogation, they confessed to Milon’s murder. Police also recovered Tk4.97 lakh from the possession of Murad,” he said.
“We were working on this case for several days but had no leads.
With the help of technology, we arrested three individuals who eventually provided information about Milan’s whereabouts. Further details will be shared soon,” the OC added.
Angered by the incident, local people besieged the office of local administration on Thursday afternoon demanding capital punishment of the killers.
The agitated locals also blocked Thakurgaon intersection in the town, halting vehicular movement for two hours.
Meanwhile, an angry mob carried out an attack on the house and shop of the prime accused Sejan and vandalised those. They also set the house of Sejan on fire.
