In a press release issued on Monday (12 November), Titas Gas revealed that, since 8 September, they have disconnected a total of 7,000 illegal gas connections over a span of two months. The gas distribution company stated that its efforts to identify and dismantle illegal gas usage are ongoing, with a focus on maintaining the safety and integrity of the national gas grid. During this period, a total of 40 kilometers of illegal pipelines have been removed as part of the operation.

The illegal connections cut include 97 industrial establishments, 56 commercial enterprises, and 6,851 residential connections. These unauthorized connections were using an estimated 19,569 burners to burn gas illegally.

The eviction campaign is being carried out across several areas, including Gazipur, Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Gulshan, Ashulia, Savar, Bhaluka, Mymensingh, Meghnaghat, Keraniganj, Kamrangirchar, Fatulla, Chashadaha, Siddhirganj, Araihazar, Narayanganj, Kaliakair, Chandna, and Joydebpur. The operation is being led by executive magistrates in coordination with Titas Gas’ dedicated personnel.

Titas Gas officials emphasized that the ongoing crackdown is essential to prevent revenue loss and ensure the safety and reliability of the gas supply network.

Unauthorized gas usage poses a significant risk to both public safety and the economy, as it leads to unaccounted consumption, financial losses, and possible safety hazards.

The company has pledged to continue monitoring and dismantling illegal connections throughout the affected areas, with a focus on enforcing the law and ensuring fair usage of gas resources.

Legal action will be taken against those found responsible for these illegal connections.

Titas Gas has urged residents and businesses to use legal gas connections and to report any illegal practices to authorities in an effort to improve the country’s gas distribution system and prevent further disruption.
