The Awami League has been forcibly in power for the last one decade by conducting heavily manipulated and flawed polls in the last two general elections. Earlier, the party showed confidence that it would be able to remain in power by conducting the forthcoming election in its own way as it did in the past. But the US and other democratic nations minus India as well as the United Nations have been putting pressure on the government that this time the election must be free and fair.

That confidence of defiance in AL is now no more. The party now appears to be concerned after the announcement of a blanket US visa restrictions for the ones who would create obstruction on the way of holding a free and fair election that is slated to be held after about six months’ time.

After the US visa policy announcement, it is expected that there will be a meaningful change of attitude among the government officials, especially the law enforcing agencies. They are public servants to serve the people as required by law.

First, Amir Hossain Amu, one of AL’s senior leaders, said in a party meeting on June 5 that dialogue could be held with the opposition under the mediation of the UN. But Awami League general secretary, Obaidul Quader still talking boldly but said recently that the lamp of hope for dialogue was not lit yet. Tofail Ahmed, a prominent leader of Awami League also in favour of dialogue for sensible way out. The people’s vengeance must not be ignored.
Therefore, it is apparent now that people within the heart core of AL are now thinking and rethinking about how best can they deal with the crisis. The differences of opinion on the question of dialogue with the BNP and other opposition leaders will be faded out in course of time.

The callous lies and extreme failures of the government cannot be kept hidden any more. The miseries caused to the people because of reckless corruption and shameful mismanagement of the government. There was no restraint in spending public money on wasteful celebrations for image building while wellbeing of the people was no concern. There is all the justification for the demand of the opposition that it is urgent that this government resign notwithstanding the terrible fact that it will be far from easy to run the government.

As for the prime minister who is still expressing her rants against the US government and might be ill motivated by those people in her party and her crony businesspeople who looted and laundered public money to foreign countries. We have to get back the public money to be used for helping the general public.

The US visa policy now raises hope in people of Bangladesh to have their own government. Both the government and the opposition must avoid unnecessary violence and avoid public inconvenience.
