BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said on Sunday that after 15 years of devastation under Sheikh Hasina’s rule, it is now time to move the country forward.
He made these remarks while virtually addressing the inaugural session of the Narail BNP conference held at the Narail Government High School field as chief guest.
Tarique said, “Over the past 15 years, the country has been utterly destroyed. Now is the time to rebuild. About two and a half years ago, we presented a 31-point demand to the people of the country. These 31 points outline the plan to rebuild and advance the nation, which was destroyed by the fugitive murderer and tyrant Sheikh Hasina’s government over the past 15 years.”
Emphasising the need to rebuild both the party and the country, the BNP’s acting chairman said, “Just as we are working to reorganise the party through today’s conference, we must also focus on rebuilding the country. The state and its structures are in dire need of repair.
“The people of Bangladesh have seen in the past that, as much as possible, the BNP has worked for the country and its people. While we may not have achieved everything we set out to do for various reasons, whatever has been done for the people, it was the BNP that made it happen.”
Addressing the councillors present, he referred to them as soldiers of the late president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, saying, “You are the soldiers of two leaders who have always put Bangladesh and its people first. The people of Bangladesh are looking to you and your party for guidance, as you have done in the past, to lead the country forward and strengthen its position on the global stage.”
