Tigers win 1st Test by an innings and 47 runs against Ireland

Bangladesh Cricket team recorded an innings and 47 runs victory over Ireland Cricket team on Day 4 of their first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Electing to bat first, Ireland made 286 in the first innings on the second day (Wednesday). Mehidy Hasan Miraz captured three wickets in the space of 50 runs, while Hasan Mahmud, Hasan Murad and Taijul Islam picked up two wickets each instead of 42, 47 and 78 runs respectively.
The Tigers declared their first innings after piling up a comfortable 587 for the loss of eight wickets on the third day (Thursday). Mahmudul Hasan Joy notched up a terrific 171. Joy was adjudged the Man of the Match for his superb innings. Najmul Hossain Shanto hit a captain’s knock of exact 100. Besides, Mominul Haque, Shadman Islam and Litton Das added 82, 80, 60 runs respectively.
Ireland scored 254 in their second innings on the fourth day (Friday).
Ireland resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 86 for the loss of five wickets. Andy McBrine and Mathew Humphreys resumed their second innings with the over-night score of four and naught respectively.
McBrine and Mathew added 30 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Mathew (16) was caught at the short backward square leg by Shadman Islam off Taijul Islam when Ireland’s total was 116 for the loss of six wickets.
McBrine and Andy Balbirnie built another notable partnership before left-arm spinner Hasan Murad struck. They scored together 66 runs in the seven-wicket stand.
Balbirnie was trapped leg before wicket by the left-arm spinner when the tourists’ total was 182 for the loss of seven wickets.
Balbirnie made 38 from 63 deliveries featuring five fours.
After Balbirie’s dismissal, promising pacer Nahid Rana hit as Andy McBrine was caught at the short midwicket by Hasan Murad off the pacer when Ireland’s score was 198 for the loss of eight wickets.
McBrine notched up a sedate 52. His 106-ball innings was belted with five fours.
After McBrine’s departure, Jordan Neil and Barry McCarthy fought back adding together 54 runs for the ninth wicket partnership before Neil was caught at the long-off by Shadman Islam off Hasan Murad when the visitors’ total was 252 for the loss of nine wickets.
Neil scored 36 from 53 balls including seven fours.
Barry (25) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Taijul Islam and Ireland innings came to an end.
Hasan Murad and Taijul Islam were most successful bowlers on the fourth day.
Hasan Murad captured four wickets giving 60 runs, while Taijul Islam claimed three wickets at the cost of 80 runs.
