Tigers whitewash Ireland in Test series

Bangladesh Cricket team whitewashed Ireland Cricket team in two-match Test series 2-0 after defeating the touring side by 217 runs in the second Test on the Day 5 of their second Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, the Tigers piled up a mammoth total of 476 in the first innings on the second day (Thursday).

Litton Das notched up his team’s highest of 128. His 192-ball innings had eight fours and four sixes.

Mushfiqur Rahim hit a terrific 106 in his first innings. His 214-ball knock was belted with five fours. Later, Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 53 runs. His 81-ball knock was studded with two fours and a sixer. Mushfiqur Rahim was adjudged the Man of the Match. It was his 100th Test. Mushfiqur Rahim is the only batter of Bangladesh who played 100 Test match. He hit 13 century in Test cricket, which is the highest century for Bangladesh in Test cricket. Mominul Haque is the other batter of Bangladesh who also notched up 13 century in Test cricket.

Mominul Haque knocked a sedate 63 in the first innings, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 47 runs to Bangladesh total.

Andy McBrine restored some parity for his country claiming six wickets for 109 runs.

Ireland scored 265 in the first innings on Day 3 (Friday). Lorcan Tucker remained unbeaten with 75 runs.

Taijul Islam captured four wickets in the space of 76 runs. Taijul Islam is now the highest wicket-taker of Bangladesh. He claimed four wickets instead of 104 runs in the second innings. Taijul Islam crossed 250-wicket land-mark playing just 57 Test matches. He altogether grabbed 13 wickets in two Test matches against Ireland. He was adjudged the Player of the Series.

Bangladesh declared their second innings making 297 for the loss of four wickets on the Day 4 (Saturday) and set a target of 509 runs to win for Ireland.

Ireland were all out for 291 in the second innings on Day 5 (Sunday).

Ireland resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 176 for the loss of six wickets. Curtis Campher and Andy Mc Brine resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 34 and 15 runs respectively.

Cartis Campher fought back making an unbeaten 71. His 259-ball sedate innings was ornamented with four fours and two sixes.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam struck as McBrine (21) was trapped leg before wicket by left-arm spinner when Ireland’s score was 189 for the loss of seven wickets.

Campher and Jordan Neil built a respectable partnership scoring together 48 runs in the eighth wicket stand before Neil (30) was bowled out by Miraz when the touring side’s total was 237 for the loss of eight wickets.

Campher and Gavin Hoey added together 54 runs for the ninth wicket partnership before Hasan Murad hit as Gavin (37) was trapped leg before wicket by the promising spinner when the visitors’ score was 291 for the loss of nine wickets.

Hasan Murad struck as Mathew Humprheys (0) was bowled out by Hasan Murad and Ireland innings came to an end.

Hasan Murad bagged four wickets at the cost of 44 runs.
