The Tigers thrashed Pakistan by seven wickets in their first Twenty20 International (T20I) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Sunday.
Chasing Pakistan’s paltry total of 110 off 19.3 overs, Bangladesh coasted home making 112 for the loss of three wickets when they had 27 balls to spare.
Bangladesh had an unhappy start as they lost their early two wickets for seven runs.
Opener Parvez Hossain Emon and second-down Towhid Hridoy repaired the damage contributing together 73 runs in the third wicket stand before Towhid Hridoy was bowled out by Abbas Afridi when Bangladesh’s score was 80 for the loss of three wickets.
Parvez Hossain Emon remained unbeaten with 56. His 39-ball innings was ornamented with five sixes and three fours.
Parvez Hossain Emon was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding batting display.
Hridoy hit a respectable 36. He hit two fours and two sixes in his 37-ball innings.
After Hridoy’s dismissal, Parvez Hossain Emon and Jaker Ali Anik helped their side to reach the victory spot.
Jaker Ali remained unbeaten with 15 runs. His 10-ball knock had three fours.
Salman Mirza captured two wickets in the space of 23 runs, while Abbas Afridi took one wicket conceding 16 runs.
Fakhar Zaman, Abbas Afridi and Khushdil Shah were the only batters of who could resist against the superb pace bowling attack of Bangladeshi pacers.
Prolific right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed grabbed three wickets in the space of 22 runs, while ace left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of six runs.
Promising right-arm pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib took one wicket giving 20 runs.
Besides, right-arm spinner Mahedi Hasan picked up one wicket for 37 runs.
Fakhar Zaman hit a polished 44. His 34-ball innings was laced with six fours and a sixer.
Abbas Afridi scored 22 from 24 balls featuring three sixes.
Khushdil Shah added 17 runs to Pakistan’s total.
