Bangladesh took command on the Day 2 in the first Test against Sri Lanka making 484 for the loss of nine wickets at Galle International Stadium in Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
Tigers resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 292 for the loss of three wickets. Bangladesh scored 423 for the loss of four wickets before the rain halted the second day play. Later, the second day play started as the field became playable for both teams.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 136 and 105 runs respectively.
Shanto could add more 12 runs on the second day as he (148) was caught at the mid-off by Angelo Mathews off Asitha Fernando when Bangladesh’s score was 309 for the loss of four wickets.
After Shanto’s departure, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das put on together 149 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim was trapped leg before wicket by Asitha Fernando when the Tigers’ total was 458 for the loss of five wickets. Mushfiqur Rahim notched up a gritty 163. His 350-ball innings was ornamented with nine fours.
After Mushfiqur Rahim’s dismissal, Litton Das could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Tharindu Rathnayake when the visitors’ score was 458 for the loss of six wickets.
Litton Das was a victim of nervous ninety. He knocked a superb 90 from 123 deliveries with 11 fours and a sixer. Litton reached his 18 half-century playing 64 deliveries hitting five fours and a six.
After Litton’s departure, Jaker Ali failed to shine with the willow as he (8) was bowled out by Milan Rathnayake when Bangladesh’s total was 474 for the loss of seven wickets.
Taijul Islam (6) was bowled out by Milan Rathnayake when the touring side’s score was 483 for the loss of eight wickets.
Nayeem Hasan (11) was caught behind by Kusal Mendis off Milan Rathnayake when Bangladesh’s total was 484 for the loss of nine wickets.
Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana was on naught respectively before the two umpires drew the bails.
Milan Rathnayake, Asitha Fernando and Tharindu Rathnayake grabbed three wickets each instead of 38, 80 and 196 runs respectively.
