Litton Das hits ton: Tigers restore some parity against Pakistan

An unprecedented 138 by Litton Das powered Bangladesh National Cricket team to score 262 in their first innings on Day 3 play of the second Test cricket match against Pakistan National Cricket Stadium at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi of Pakistan on Sunday.
Litton Das hit 13 fours and four sixes in his 228-ball sedate innings. It was Litton’s fourth Test century.
Pakistan were at the stumps at 9 for the loss of two wickets.
Opener Abdullah Shafique was caught behind by Litton Das off Hasan Mahmud when Pakistan’s total was seven for the loss of one wicket.
Hasan Mahmud struck again as Khurram Shahzad (0) was bowled out by right-arm pacer when Pakistan’s score was nine for the loss of two wickets.
Hasan Mahmud claimed two wickets for three runs.
The Tigers trailed by 21 runs.
Earlier, Pakistan scored 272 in their first innings on the second day (Saturday).
Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 10 for the loss of none. Openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan resumed their innings with the over-night score of 6 and naught respectively. But Zakir Hasan could just one run on the third day as he was caught at the short mid wicket by Abrar Ahmed off Khurram Shahzad when Bangladesh’s total was 14.
After Zakir’s dismissal, Shadman could stay at the crease for a short period as he (10) was bowled out by Khurram Shahzad when Bangladesh’s score was 19 for the loss of two wickets.
After Shadman’s departure, one-down Najmul Hossain Shanto failed again as he (4) was bowled out by Khurram Shahzad when the tourists’ total was 20 for the loss of three wickets.
After Shanto’s dismissal, Mominul Haque (1) was caught at the mid-on by Mohammad Ali off Mir Hamza when the visitors’ score was 20 for the loss of four wickets.
In-form Mushfiqur Rahim (3) was caught behind by Mohammad Rizwan off Mir Hamza when Bangladesh’s total was 26 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan (2) was trapped leg before wicket by Khurram Shahzad when the touring side’s score was 26 for the loss of six wickets.
Fifth-down Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz salvaged their team from disaster contributing together 165 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Miraz was caught & bowled by Khurram Shahzad when the Tigers’ total was 191 for the loss of seven wickets.
Miraz knocked a painstaking 78. His 124-ball innings was decorated with 12 fours and a sixer. It was Miraz’s eighth Test half-century.
After Miraz’s dismissal, Taskin Ahmed (1) was trapped leg before wicket by Khurram Shahzad when Bangladesh’s score was 193 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then, Litton Das and Hasan Mahmud put on together 69 runs in the ninth wicket stand before Litton Das was caught at the long-on by Saim Ayub off Agha Salman when the Tigers’ total was 262 for the loss of nine wickets.
Nahid Rana (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Agha Salman when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Khurram Shahzad captured six wickets in the space of 90 runs, while Salman Agha and Mir Hamza bagged two wickets each instead of 13 and 50 runs respectively.
