Bangladesh Cricket team piled up a fighting total of 159 for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs against Netherlands Cricket team in their Group-D match of the ICC T20 World Cup (WC) at Kingstown in West Indies on Thursday.
Shakib Al Hasan returned to the notable score as the left-hand batter remained unbeaten with 64. His 46-ball innings was ornamented with nine fours.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Najmul Hossain Shanto (1) caught at the first slip by Vikramjit Singh off Aryan Dutt when Bangladesh’s score was just three.
One-down Litton Das (1) was caught at the square leg by Sybrand Engelbrecht off Aryan Dutt when Bangladesh’s total was 23 for the loss of two wickets.
After Litton’s dismissal, opener Tanzid Hasan and second-down Shakib Al Hasan mended the innings contributing together 48 runs for the third wicket partnership before Tanzid Hasan was caught at the deep square leg by Bas de Leeds off Paul van Meekeren when the Tigers’ total was 71 for the loss of three wickets.
Tanzid hit a sparkle 35 using 26 deliveries with five fours and a sixer.
Second-down Towhid Hridoy (9) was bowled out by Tim Pringle when Bangladesh’s score was 89 for the loss of four wickets.
After Hridoy’s departure, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad salvaged their team from debacle adding together 41 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Riyad was caught by Engelbrecht off Meekeren when Bangladesh’s total was 130 for the loss of five wickets. Riyad made 25 from 21 deliveries featuring two sixes and two fours.
Then, Shakib Al Hasan and Jaker Ali put on together 29 runs in the unbroken sixth wicket stand. Jaker Ali remained unbeaten with 14 runs.
Aryan Dutt and Meekeren bagged two wickets each instead of 17 and 15 runs respectively.
