Taijul bags 5/49: Tigers on the back foot

Despite Taijul bagged five for 49 runs the Tigers were on the back foot as they scored 106 in the first innings on the opening day play of the first Test cricket match against South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Monday.

In reply, South Africa scored 140 for the loss of six wickets before the two umpires drew the bails on the first day.
Bangladesh trailed by 34 runs from the touring side.

Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Shadman Islam (0) was caught at the second slip by Aiden Markram off Wiaan Mulder when the hosts’ score was just 6.

One-down Mominul Haque (4) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne off Mulder when Bangladesh’s total was 13 for the loss of two wickets.

Second-down Najmul Hossain Shanto (7) was caught at the short mid-off by Keshav Maharaj off Mulder when the home side’s score was 21 for the loss of three wickets.

Third-down Mushfiqur Rahim (11) was bowled out by Kagiso Rabada when Bangladesh’s total was 40 for the loss of four wickets. After taking the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim, Kagiso Rabada captured his 300 Test wickets in his Test campaign.

Fourth-down Litton Das (1) was caught at the gully by Tristan Stubbs off Rabada when the Tigers’ score was 45 for the loss of five wickets.

Fifth-down Mehidy Hasan Miraz (13) was trapped leg before wicket by Maharaj when the hosts’ total was 60 for the loss of six wickets.

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy was bowled out by Dane Piedt when Bangladesh’s score was 76 for the loss of seven wickets.

Left-arm spinner Taijul struck again as David Bedingham (11) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off the left-arm spinner when the visitors’ total was 72 for the loss of three wickets.

Taijul hit again as Zorzi was caught at the short leg by Mahmudul Hasan Joy off left-arm spinner when the touring side’s score was 99 for the loss of four wickets.

Zorzi scored 30 from 72 deliveries including four fours.
Taijul continued his dominance after bowled out Matthew Breetzke (0) when the Proteas’ total was 99 for the loss of five wickets.

Taijul fulfilled his five-wicket haul as Ryan Rickelton (27) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off left-arm spinner when South Africa’s score was 108 for the loss of six wickets.

Verreynne and Mulder put on together 32 runs before the bails were drawn for the first day.
