Bangladesh have lost to Pakistan by five wickets in the T20 World Cup, ending their campaign to reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time.

Despite a valiant effort from opener Najmul Hossain Shanto (54), the Tigers were unable to mount much of a total after choosing to bat, setting a target of 128. Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was particularly disruptive to the innings, picking up 4-22.

Pakistan’s chase was steadier, with Mohammad Rizwan (32) and Mohammad Haris (31) putting up the runs. Despite picking up a couple of wickets right at the death, the Tigers were unable to fend off defeat. Of the bowlers, Nasum Ahmed, Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Ebadot Hossain picked up a wicket each.

The result leaves Bangladesh stuck in fifth place in Group 2, outside the semi-final spots. Pakistan, on the other hand, have topped the group for the moment and have assured themselves a place in the next round.
