Tigers lose to India in 1st Test

Bangladesh lost to India by 280 runs on the Day 4 play of their first Test cricket match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai of India on Sunday. Ravichandran Ashwin notched up a superb 113 in the first innings and captured six wickets at the cost of 88 runs in the second innings. Ashwin was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
Sent into bat first, India piled up a satisfactory total of 376 in the first innings on the second day ( Thursday). Promising pacer Hasan Mahmud restored some parity for his country capturing five wickets in the space of 83 runs.
Bangladesh scored 149 on the second day. The hosts declared their second innings making 287 for the loss of four wickets on the third day (Saturday).
The Tigers scored 234 in their second innings on the fourth day (Sunday).
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 158 for the loss of four wickets.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 51 and five runs respectively.
Shanto and Shakib could add together more 36 runs in the fifth wicket partnership on the fourth day before Shakib was caught at the backward short leg by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Ravichandran Ashwin when the Tigers’ total was 194 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib scored 25 using 56 deliveries with three fours.
After Shakib’s dismissal, Litton Das arrived at the crease but he (1) was caught at the first slip by Rohit Sharma off Ravindra Jadeja when Bangladesh’s score was 205 for the loss of six wickets.
After Litton’s departure, Mahidy Hasan Miraz (8) was caught at long-on by Ravindra Jadeja off Ashwin when the tourists’ total was 222 for the loss of seven wickets. Aswin fulfilled his five-wicket haul by taking the wicket of Miraz.
Najmul Hossain Shanto fought back making a painstaking 82. He hit eight fours and three sixes in his 127-ball knock before he was caught at the extra cover by Jasprit Bumrah off Ravindra Jadeja when the Tigers’ score was 222 for the loss of eight wickets.
Seventh-down Taskin Ahmed (5) was caught at the mid-on by Mohammed Siraj off Ashwin when the tourists’ total was 228 for the loss of nine wickets.
Number.10 batter Hasan Mahmud (7) was bowled out by Ravindra Jadeja and Bangladesh’ second innings was concluded. Jadeja claimed three wickets instead of 58 runs, while Bumrah took one wicket for 24 runs.
The second Test cricket match between Bangladesh and India will be held at Green Park in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.
