The Tigers lost to Caribbeans by five wickets in the first One Day International (ODI) match at Warner Park in Saint Kitts of West Indies on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a fighting total of 294 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
In reply, West Indies reached the winning spot making 295 for the loss of five wickets when they had 14 balls to spare.
Bangladesh had a modest start with two openers Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar put on together 34 runs before Soumya (19) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Shai Hope off Alzarri Joseph.
Litton Das (2) was caught behind by Shai Hope off Romario Shepherd when the Tigers’ total was 46 for the loss of two wickets.
Tanzid Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz mended the innings contributed together 79 runs for the third wicket partnership before Tanzid Hasan was caught at the short third man by Roston Chase off Alzarri Joseph when the touring side’s total was 125 for the loss of three wickets.
Tanzid hit a run-a-ball 60 including three sixes and six fours.
After Tanzid’s dismissal, Miraz and Afif Hossain built a notable partnership scoring together 54 runs in the four wicket stand before Afif (28) was caught at the deep square leg by Jayden Seales off Shepherd when Bangladesh’s score was 179 for the loss of four wickets.
Miraz was caught at the short extra cover by Sherfane Rutherford off Seales when the visitors’ total was 198 for the loss of five wickets.
Miraz hit a captain’s knock of 74. His 101-ball innings had six fours and a sixer.
After Miraz’s departure, Mahmudullah Riyad and Jaker Ali made a respectable partnership. They scored together 96 runs in the sixth wicket stand before Jaker was caught at the deep backward square leg by Brandon King off Shepherd when Bangladesh’s score was 294 for the loss of six wickets.
Jaker Ali notched up a polished 48. His 40-ball innings was laced with three fours and three sixes.
Mahmudullah remained unbeaten with 50. He hit three sixes and three fours in his 44-ball knock.
Shepherd captured three wickets at the cost of 51 runs, while Alzarri Joseph claimed two wickets conceding 67 runs.
Later, Rutherford hit a windy 113. His 80-ball innings was belted with eight sixes and seven fours. It was his maiden ODI century. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his terrific innings.
