Tigers level series beating WI by 101 runs

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam grabbed five wickets as West Indies (WI) were shot out for 185 in their second innings and the Tigers leveled the series 1-1 defeating the Caribbeans by 101 runs on the Day 4 play of the second Test cricket match at the Sabina Park in Jamaica of West Indies on Tuesday. After 15 years Bangladesh won a Test match on the soil of West Indies. Taijul Islam bowled superbly well and finished his outstanding spell as 17-5-50-5. Taijul Islam was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Electing to bat first, Bangladesh scored 164 in the first innings on the second day (Saturday).
West Indies were shot out for 146 in the first innings on the third day (Monday).

The Tigers piled up a satisfactory 268 in the second innings on the fourth day and set a target for the hosts’ to win scoring 286 in the second innings. West Indies were bundled out for 185 in the second innings on the fourth day (Tuesday) and conceded defeat.

Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 193 for the loss of five wickets.

Jaker Ali and Taijul Islam resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 29 and nine runs respectively.

Taijul could add more five runs on the fourth day as he was caught at the first slip by Kavem Hodge off Alzarri Joseph when the Tigers total was 207 for the loss of six wickets.

Mominul Haque (0) was caught at the first slip by Hodge off Kemar Roach when the visitors’ score was 211 for the loss of seven wickets.

Hasan Mahmud (3) was caught at the first slip by Hodge off Roach when Bangladesh’s total was 243 for the loss of eight wickets.

Taskin Ahmed (0) was bowled out by Roach when the touring side’s score was 243 for the loss of nine wickets.

Jaker Ali was a victim of nervous nineties. He was deprived for a century for just nine runs. Jaker Ali notched up a splendid 91. He hit eight fours and five sixes in his 106-ball innings before he was caught at the deep midwicket by Alick Athanaze off Alzarri Joseph when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.

Roach and Alzarri Joseph were their team’s most successful bowlers on the fourth day. Roach and Joseph bagged three wickets each instead of 36 and 77 runs respectively.

Then, Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana played the key role to mop up up the Caribbeans’ second innings.

Hasan Mahmud and Taskin Ahmed bagged two wickets each instead of 20 and 45 runs respectively. Nahid Rana picked up one wicket for 32 runs.

Kavem Hodge and Kraigg Brathwaite were the only batters of the home side who could fight back against the marvelous bowling attack of Bangladeshi bowlers.

Hodge knocked a respectable 55. He hit six fours in his 75-ball innings before he was trapped leg before wicket b y Taijul Islam.

Kraigg Brathwaite hit a captain’s knock of 43. He struck two fours and a sixer in his 63-ball innings before he was caught at the first slip by Mahmudul Hasan Joy off Taijul Islam. Taskin Ahmed was adjudged the Player of the Series. He captured 11 wickets in the two Test matches and scored 23 runs playing the Test series.
