Tigers lead by 187 runs vs Lanka in 1st Test

Nayem Hasan of Bangladesh claimed five wickets of Sri Lanka’s first innings as the hosts were all out for 485 on Day 4 at Galle International Stadium in Sri Lanka on Friday.

The right-arm spinner bowled extremely well as he finished his superb spell as 43.2-4-121-5.
Earlier, Bangladesh piled up a satisfactory 495 in their first innings on the third day ( Thursday).
The Tigers scored 177 for the loss of three wickets before the bails were drawn for the fourth day (Friday).

Bangladesh led by 187 runs.

Bangladesh made a modest start as opener Anamul Haque (4) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Prabath Jayasuriya when Bangladesh’s total was only 24.

After Anamul’s dismissal, Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque contributed 36 runs in the second wicket stand before Mominul Haque (14) was caught at the short point by Igalagamage off Thairndu Rathnayake when the touring side’s score was 60 for the loss of two wickets.
After Mominul’s departure, Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto mended the innings contributing together 68 runs for the third wicket partnership before Shadman Islam was trapped leg before wicket by Milan Rathnayake when Bangladesh’s total was 128 for the loss of three wickets.

Shadman Islam knocked a polished 76. His 126-ball innings was ornamented with seven fours. It was Shadman Islam’s sixth half-century in Test cricket.

After Shadman’s departure, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim added together 49 runs in the unbroken fourth wicket stand.

Shanto remained unbeaten with 56 runs, while Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 22 runs.
Milan Rathnayake, Prabath Jayasuriya, Tharindu Rathnayake took one wicket apiece.

Earlier, Sri Lanka resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 368 for the loss of four wickets.

Kamindu Mendis and Dhahanjaya de Silva resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 37 and 17 runs respectively.

Dhananjaya could add more two runs on the fourth day as he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off right-arm spinner Nayeem Hasan when the home side’s total was 377 for the loss of five wickets.

Hasan Mahmud struck as Kusal Mendis (5) was caught by wicketkeeper Litton Das off right-arm pacer when the Islander’s score was 386 for the loss of six wickets.

After Kusal’s dismissal, Kamindu Mendis and Milan Rathnayake resisted Bangladesh bowling attack adding together 84 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Hasan Mahmud hit as Milan Rathnayake (39) was bowled out by the right-arm pacer when Sri Lanka’s total was 470 for the loss of seven wickets.

Kamindu Mendis notched up a superb 87. He hit eight fours and a sixer in his 148-ball innings before he was caught behind by Litton Das off Nayeem Hasan when Sri Lanka’s score was 470 for the loss of eight wickets.

Nayeem Hasan struck as Tharindu Rathnayake (0) was bowled out by right-arm spinner when the home side’s score was 471 for the loss of nine wickets.

Nayeem Hasan hit as Asitha Fernando (4) was bowled out by the right-arm spinner when Sri Lanka’s first innings came to an end.

Hasan Mahmud grabbed three wickets in the space of 74 runs.
