Bangladesh Cricket team took the commanding position of the second Test after piling up 476 in their first innings on Day 2 against Ireland Cricket team at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Thursday.
Ireland were tottering at 98 for the loss of five wickets before the two umpires drew the bails for the second day.
The Tigers resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 292 for the loss of four wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 99 and 47 runs respectively.
Mushfiqur Rahim notched up a superb 106. His 214-ball innings was studded with five fours. It was Mushfiqur Rahim’s 100th Test. Mushfiqur Rahim was the only batter of Bangladesh who played 100 Test matches. It was Mushfiqur Rahim’s 13th century in Test cricket.
Litton Das hit a terrific 128. His 192-ball knock was decorated with four sixes and eight fours. It was Litton’s fifth century in Test cricket.
Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the slip by Andrew Balbirnie off Mathew Humphreys when Bangladesh’s score was 310 for the loss of five wickets.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Litton Das contributed 123 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Miraz was caught at the cover by Cade Carmichael off Gavin Hoey when the Tigers’ total was 433 for the loss of six wickets.
Miraz made 47 from 107 balls featuring three fours and a sixer. After Miraz’s dismissal, Litton Das could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was caught by Paul Stirling off Humphreys when the hosts’ score was was 433 for the loss of seven wickets. After Litton’s dismissal, Bangladesh failed to make any notable partnership.
McBrine captured six wickets instead of 109 runs, while Gavin Hoey and Humphreys got two wickets each conceding 115 and 151 runs respectively. Then, pacer Khaled Ahmed struck as opener Paul Stirling (27) was trapped leg before wicket by the pacer when Ireland’s score was 41.
Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad hit as opener Andrew Balbirnie (21) was caught at the first slip by Najmul Hossain Shanto off left-arm spinner when the touring side’s total was 63 for the loss of two wickets.
Experienced right-arm spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck as Cade Carmichael (17) was trapped leg before wicket by right-arm spinner when the visitors’ score was 79 for the loss of three wickets.
Left-arm spinner Hasan Murad struck again as Curtis Campher (0) was bowled out by left-arm spinner when Ireland’s total was 84 for the loss of four wickets. Experienced left-arm spinner Taijul Islam hit as Harry Tector (14) was trapped leg before wicket when Ireland’s score was 94 for the loss of five wickets. Lorcan Tucker and Stephen Doheny were at the stumps at 11 and two runs respectively.
Hasan Murad bagged two wickets in the space of 10 runs, while Miraz, Khaled and Taijul Islam took one wicket each giving 11, 30 and 32 runs respectively.
