Tiger pressure has increased in the Sharankhola range of the Eastern Sundarbans. The normal movement of the forest guards is being disrupted due to the presence of tigers. Tigers attacked the Range headquarters twice in the past week.
On Friday last afternoon, 8/10 deer ran and died in front of the Range office after being chased by the tiger.
Earlier, on day, forest guards had to open blank fires at the Sharankhola Range office to chase away the tiger, according to a delayed report received here.
Md. Khalilur Rahman, Range Officer of Sharankhola station officer of the Eastern Sundarbans Forest Division told, on Saturday (July 12) morning that tiger pressure was increased in the Sundarbans. In the past week, Royal Bengal Tigers entered the Sharankhola Range office yard twice.
The first time the arrival of the tiger was felt in the forest, adjacent to the Range office was on Friday. At that time, the tiger chased deer and pigs.
The forest guards were unable to move normally because of the tiger’s presence here. When the tiger did not move even after two days, they had to fire two rounds of blank fire to chase the tiger away. Six days after the incident, the tiger attacked the same place once again on Friday last afternoon.
At the afternoon, 8/10 deer were chased by the tiger and came running in front of the Range office, where they were killed, while the wild boars ran randomly into the Sundarbans. Tiger footprints were seen near the Range office.
Forest guards did not come out of the office on Friday night due to fear of the tiger. Tiger panic is now prevailing among the forest guards and forest workers.
Wild boars have not been seen roaming in the Range and Station office premises like other days since Saturday morning. It is believed that the tiger is still hiding near the Range office, said Forest Ranger Khalilur Rahman.
