A Dhaka court has sentenced three individuals to death and five others to life imprisonment for the murder of three men during an arbitration meeting in Munshiganj in 2021.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Judge Masud Karim of the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal.
Those sentenced to death are Sourav Prodhan, Rony Bepari, and Shihab Prodhan.
Shakib Prodhan, Shameem Prodhan, Anik Bepari, Raihan, and Choto Jahangir received life sentences.
According to Special Public Prosecutor Md Billal Hossain, three of the convicts—Shihab, Shakib, and Shameem—are brothers.
The case stems from a violent incident on March 24, 2021, in the North Islampur area of Munshiganj. A clash between two groups earlier that day led to an arbitration meeting held at night to defuse tensions.
During the meeting, members of one group—Md Emon Hossain (22), Md Shakib Hossain (19), and Mintu Prodhan (40)—were fatally stabbed by members of the opposing side, including the convicts.
The following day, Khaleda Akhter, wife of victim Mintu Prodhan, filed a case naming 12 individuals and accusing an additional 10–15 unidentified persons of involvement in the killings.
