Three-day long national fruit fair begins in Sylhet

The three-day long Fruit Fair 2025 has begun in Sylhet. The fair began in Sylhet as part of the National Fruit Fair that began across the country on the occasion of the summer fruit season. Various varieties of local fruits are displayed at the fair.

The fair was inaugurated at Dhopadighirpar Sylhet by the Department of Agricultural Extension with the theme ‘Eat more local fruits, let’s plant fruit trees’.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet (General) Anwar Uz Zaman inaugurated the fair.
Mustafa Iqbal Azad, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet presided over the inaguration ceremony.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event organized to inaugurate the fair, he said that the importance of fruit fairs is immense in increasing the production of local fruits, creating consumer awareness and motivating the public about nutrition. Such an event will play a role in the national economy by increasing the production of local fruits.

The nutritional value of local fruits is low even at high prices. Therefore, more and more local fruits should be eaten.

Especially children need to eat more fruits. The government is taking various steps to provide nutritious food to every person in the country. He called on everyone to increase the production of fruits and get the people used to eating fruits.

The event, conducted by Metropolitan Agriculture Officer Saima Nazmin.
District Training Officer Deepak Kumar Das, Principal Engineer of Sylhet Textile Institute Md. Humayun Kabir, and Principal of Sylhet Women’s Technical Training Center Asif Aziz also spoke as special guests.

Mohammad Anisuzzaman, Additional Deputy Director (PP) of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet, presented a presentation on the occasion of the inauguration of the fair.
Among others who spoke was Md. Delwar Hossain, owner of Sugandha Nursery.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Tamanna Nahar, Additional Deputy Director (Horticulture) of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Apurba Lal Sarkar, concerned officials of DAE, stall owners, agricultural entrepreneurs, garden and nursery owners, and journalists.

At the beginning of the programme, the chief guest visited various stalls of the fruit fair and distributed free coconut seedlings to increase the cultivation and production of coconut crops.
