Police have lodged three separate cases in Khagrachhari after violence in Singinala, including violations of Section 144, assaults on police, and the deaths of three people in the Ramsu Bazar area.
In Guimara, authorities filed two cases against 250–300 unidentified individuals in connection with the Ramsu Bazar killings and attacks on law enforcement, confirmed by Guimara Police Station OC Md. Enamul Haque Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, in Khagrachhari Sadar, a case was filed against 600–700 unidentified people for violating Section 144, causing damage, inciting riots, and attacking police. The case was registered by Sub-Inspector Shahriar of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station. OC Abdul Baten Mridha verified the filing.
OC Enamul Haque Chowdhury said the overall law-and-order situation in Guimara is now under control. Section 144 remains in force, and security personnel are patrolling the area to maintain order.
In a separate development, 19-year-old Shoyon Shil was sent to jail custody by the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday afternoon after completing a six-day remand for the rape of a Marma schoolgirl. OC Abdul Baten Mridha confirmed the accused has been remanded to jail, and added that the Khagrachhari area is now normal, with security forces staying vigilant.
Case details indicate that the schoolgirl was returning home from private tutoring in Singinala on September 23 around 9:00 pm. She was later found unconscious in a crop field by relatives around 11:00 pm and admitted to the hospital. Police arrested Shoyon Shil in connection with the incident.
On Sept 30, the Jummo Chhatra Janata suspended their protests pushing for an eight-point list of demands until Oct 5 after receiving assurances and in consideration of the Durga Puja holiday. The local administration then said Section 144 restrictions would be relaxed gradually as the situation calmed.
Since then, the unrest in Khagrachhari has died down.
The alleged rape occurred on September 23 as the student was returning home from private tutoring in Singinala around 9:00 pm. She was found unconscious in a crop field around 11:00 pm and hospitalized. Shoyon Shil was subsequently arrested, and the case sparked widespread protests and unrest in Khagrachhari, which later escalated into violence.
