The “March for Unity,” called by the anti-discrimination student movement, began at 4pm on Tuesday at the Central Shaheed Minar.
Earlier in the day, thousands of students and citizens started gathering at the Central Shaheed Minar to join the programme. By afternoon, the entire Shaheed Minar area was packed with crowds, including students from Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Jagannath University, and others arriving from various districts.
During this time, the crowd joined in chants led by Hasnat Abdullah, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, along with other coordinators present on the stage. The entire area resonated with slogans such as “We want justice, justice.”
Law enforcement agencies, including police, the police dog squad, RAB, and DB, were deployed at the rally site to ensure security.
The “March for Unity” programme was scheduled to announce the “Proclamation of the July Revolution” on Tuesday. However, following an emergency meeting on Monday night, the anti-discrimination student movement announced that the interim government is preparing a similar proclamation, which they have decided to support.
However, the programme at the Shaheed Minar will continue as planned. The anti-discrimination student movement said they will present their vision for the “Proclamation of the July Revolution” during the event at the Shaheed Minar.
